JSP von Sun Microsystems gestattet von ihrer Syntax her, mittels spezieller XML-Tags vordefinierte Funktionalität einzubinden. Diese sog. JSP-Aktionen werden in Tag-Bibliotheken als Erweiterung der HTML- bzw XML-Tags definiert. Die JavaServer Page ist eine dynamische Komponente und kommt komplett ohne statische Elemente aus. So können über ein JSP-Dokument auch Töne oder Bilder erzeugt und an den Client gesendet werden.
